Located in the heart of today's modern downtown, the Gaslamp Quarter is one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Diego. We'll begin the tour with a brief discussion about California and San Diego's history as we walk through this historic area and learn about it's beginnings as a rival to "Old Town" due to its prime location near the bay. You'll learn how early pioneers like William Heath Davis and Alonzo Horton helped shape the future of America's finest city. Our main focus will be on 5th avenue with its beautifully restored Victorian buildings and the Gaslamp Artisan Market. After the Gaslamp we will continue our walk through Seaport Village to the Tuna Harbor Dockside Market where the public can purchase fresh caught seafood direct from local fishermen. We'll also pass by the USS Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum of San Diego before we enter the famous Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market, one of the best places to be in San Diego on a beautiful Saturday afternoon!
